A group of passionate advocates including nurses, support group coordinators, community leaders and police officers will join Prestige Inhome Care and Wellways Carer Gateway to lace up their boots for Parkinson’s Disease in the inaugural 1,000,000 Steps Ahead Of Parkinson’s.
The hike through Sunshine Coast national parks will take several days and include some of the Coast’s steepest terrain in a deliberate effort to symbolise the difficult journey of someone newly diagnosed with a disease that affects over 100,000 Australians.
Prestige Inhome Care CEO and Founder, Nick McDonald, says “My team and I see it as a privilege to support so many people living with Parkinson’s disease around the country. We are proud to be a part of the collective voice driving real change in the lives of the more than 100,000 Aussies living with Parkinson’s”.
State Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell will be joining the other hikers.
“Like most Queenslanders I have a personal and close relationship with someone living with Parkinson’s. To say it has turned their world upside down is an understatement.”
“I know that it is only through the amazing services of our nurse navigators and organisations like Prestige Inhome Care and Restoring Hope Parkinson’s Therapy that our loved ones gain hope and help and strength to continue the journey… and that’s why I’m taking part in 1,000,000 Steps Ahead of Parkinson’s 2023!” said Mr Powell.
Prestige Inhome Care have put a call out for sponsors and donations from the wider community to help the fundraising group reach the $30,000 goal. The money raised will go towards funding a dedicated specialist Parkinson’s Nurse, contribute to early diagnosis support and greater access to educational resources, local clinics and therapies. All donations above $2.00 are tax deductible.
The hikers also invite the community to join them at the finish line on Saturday April 22nd at the Mapleton Country Markets. The Markets have kindly agreed to focus on community health providing Sunshine Coast locals with the resources to navigate aged care and disability support services, listen to special guests, and purchase craft, fashion and local produce stalls. The Blackall Range Lions will also be providing a lunch.
