Powell Media Release – Local Heroes Grants awarded to Palmwoods and Mooloolah residents

13 July 2018

Member for Glass House Andrew Powell is excited to announce the winners of the second round of his 2018 annual ‘Local Heroes’ grants. Four lots of $250 are available to individuals or groups in the electorate, four times a year, and Mr Powell is very pleased with the calibre of this rounds applications.

This rounds winners are the Palmwoods Netball Club, ‘MooFest’, young Jaymes Roser from the Maleny Swimming Club and Studio 23.

Offering teams centred around fun, fitness and friendship, the Palmwoods Netball Club use the facilities at the Nambour and Districts Netball Association to compete on Saturdays, and Palmwoods State School to train on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

“The Club is using the money they have received through my Local Heroes grant to fund a team building camp for kids aged 7-16. I’m stoked to be able to support that,” said Mr Powell.

“This isn’t the first time that the Palmwoods Netball Club has been successful in a Local Heroes grant application. They also won a round last year which enabled them to fund food and camping materials for a previous team building camp.”

“By all reports, it was a very successful event and I trust this year’s will be just as good,” said Mr Powell.

The other local winner was ‘MooFest’. Located in Mooloolah and in their fourth year of operation, MooFest is a community music festival for all ages held in September each year.

“When MooFest approached me for a Local Heroes grant it was an instant yes,” said Mr Powell.

‘”hey put on an absolutely fantastic family friendly music festival and there is nothing else like it in the electorate.”

Set to feature bands, musicians, singers, fireworks, market stalls, an animal farm, entire ‘kids zone’ and more, MooFest is sure to be another hit with the locals this year.

“I’m proud to support MooFest and I just know they will deliver another fantastic event”, concluded Mr Powell.

There are still two rounds (eight lots of $250) up for grabs in Andrew’s Local Heroes grants this year. Head over to his website at to apply.

Ends 13 July
