Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, is keen that locals are aware of the looming roadworks on Maleny-Kenilworth Roads near the intersection with Bakers Road, Elaman Creek.
“Following the 2010/11 wet season, residents would recall the significant damage to Maleny-Kenilworth Road in a number of locations and the subsequent delays in fixing the landslips. Unfortunately, as we all knew, this part of the road wasn’t fixed properly and now locals will face approximately three months of disruptions,” said Mr Powell.
“This means that our mums and dads will have longer commutes whilst taking their kids to school, our hard-working business owners and employees will have to leave earlier to get to work, and tourists coming to visit our spectacular part of the world will be delayed.”
Mr Powell said that locals are well aware of the drama that this section of Maleny-Kenilworth Road has caused in the past. It was locals that pointed out the previous work looked shoddy and had soon slipped again. If the job was simply done right in the first place, none of this would be necessary.
“I’m appalled at the original workmanship and at this waste of taxpayers’ money. I also share the frustrations of residents who will be stuck at stop/go lights for the next few months.”
“The roadworks will be scheduled between 6am and 6pm, which will cause a traffic nightmare for every kind of commuter who uses the road. These are the busiest times for Maleny-Kenilworth Road. I extend my apologies to locals and tourists alike that get caught up in this.
“Let’s hope these contractors get it right. I want this part of the road to be repaired once and for all” said Mr Powell.
