Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, is disappointed that yesterday’s Labor budget will blatantly steal money from the pockets of hardworking mums, dads and businesses and deposit those funds directly into the hands of the greedy and incompetent State Government that has again failed to deliver for the electorate of Glass House.
“This budget is nothing but higher taxes, higher debt, higher unemployment and, despite everything I have pushed the Government to provide for in the Glass House electorate, they have come up short again” said Mr Powell.
“In this budget, there is absolutely no new money for Mount Mee Road, the D’Aguilar Highway, Beerburrum Road, Steve Irwin Way or Maleny-Kenilworth Road, despite these being some of the most dangerous, poorly maintained roads in the State”.
Mr Powell has also stated that despite the Maleny Rural Fire Brigade being promised $3 million from Labor, they have delivered a meagre $1 million for the Brigade in the coming year, and that’s to buy a block of land.
“What happened to their election commitment of building a new joint premise at the Maleny Auxiliary Brigade site on Bunya Street? Once again, the Premier has completely abandoned Glass House constituents and shown her contempt for those living outside of inner Brisbane”.
“Anyone who travels on the Bruce Highway to the Sunshine Coast knows how desperately extra lanes are needed between Caboolture and Caloundra. And yet, Labor have ignored the generous extra funding put on the table by the Federal Turnbull Government – thanks to the hard work of Andrew Wallace MP and Ted O’Brien MP – and promised nothing.”
“I’m disappointed to have to be the bearer of bad news and inform Glass House residents that this Labor Government has not pledged nearly enough money for the Beerburrum to Nambour rail upgrade. It is so frustrating to see our beautiful electorate treated with such disdain”, said Mr Powell.
“All this while Treasurer Jackie Trad is set to charge Queenslanders more for their water, car rego and electricity, and pilfer an extra $2.2 billion in taxes and charges over the next four years. That includes a whopping $1.3 billion for their new waste tax. Again, why should Glass House mums, dads and businesses have to pay so much to have their waste removed?”
Mr Powell has said that he is yet to determine whether any funding has been allocated to Glass House schools but it’s not looking promising as Palaszczuk and Trad once again show extraordinary favour toward inner city schools.
“This budget is a disgrace and a slap in the face to the hard workers of our great State. This Labor Government clearly has nothing more to offer aside from higher taxes, higher debt, higher rates of unemployment and lower service provision for the Glass House electorate”.
