Now in its fifth year Glass House MP, Andrew Powell, will again strap on his walking boots and make the journey along Maleny-Kenilworth Road from Little Yabba Creek to Maleny on Friday 10 October.
Known locally as ‘Andrew’s Great Walk’ Mr Powell uses this walk as fundraising activity for Chaplains and to also reaffirm his commitment to upgrading Maleny-Kenilworth Road.
“This walk particularly raises money for the Chaplains at Maleny and Conondale State Schools, but I certainly believe that all of our Chaplains deserve our support so they can continue to provide a service to our students.
“Many of our kids rely on Chaplains for emotional support and guidance. They provide an invaluable service to our students by offering a listening ear, words of wisdom and encouragement in times of need.
“It is great to see that even the Principals strap on their walking shoes to participate in parts of the journey to demonstrate each school’s ongoing support of their Chaplains,” he said.
Mr Powell has also used his ‘Great Walk’ to reassure the community of his ongoing commitment to secure funds to fix the Maleny-Kenilworth Road.
“Anyone who uses this road regularly knows how hazardous it can be which is why I have continued to make the promise to the community that I will work with the Minister and the Department of Transport and Main Roads to ensure they are aware how important upgrades are to this stretch of road.
“I am pleased to say we successfully fought for funds to construct the new Grigor Bridge at Conondale last year and I will not give up my campaign to secure further funds for the road itself,” he said.
Anyone wishing to join Mr Powell on his walk is welcome to meet at Little Yabba Creek at 6am for a 6.30am start on Friday 10 October.
The walkers will be having a drinks and food stop at the park near the Conondale Pool at around 8.30am which community members are invited to attend.
