Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, is urging all parents and community members to sign the petition for flashing lights at Maleny State School before it closes on 10 February 2014.
Mr Powell said that the purpose of flashing lights in our school zones in to warn motorists of an approaching local school and to remind them of the lowered speed in school zones.
“We want to remind drivers that they must remain vigilant around school zones and this is certainly important in a busy town like Maleny,” Mr Powell said.
Mr Powell is campaigning to have Maleny State School considered for flashing lights by the end of the next financial year.
“I am also supporting community petitions for flashing lights at schools in Wamuran, Woodford and Elimbah.
“I know that we are all passionate about the safety of our children and I would encourage everyone to consider signing the petitions,” Mr Powell said.
