Glass House artists are being encouraged to enter the Speaker’s Art Prize which has been commissioned by The Hon Fiona Simpson MP, the Speaker of the House, Queensland Parliament.
Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP said the prize which is open to artists across Queensland, offers $9,000 for a painting, drawing or sketch of Queensland Parliament House and is open for submissions now.
“The artwork should capture the essence of the Queensland Parliament House which is also known as The People’s House,” Mr Powell said.
“It would be wonderful to see the work of Glass House artist represented alongside some of the great works which already reside in Parliament House.
“I am always amazed at some of the excellent work by artists in this region, many of whom are known across Australia. This is a great opportunity for some of our very talented local artists to put their mark on Queensland’s history and honour this leading example of heritage architecture.”
The Flying Arts Alliance which has extensive experience in developing arts projects and events in Queensland is facilitating the competition in conjunction with the Speaker of the Parliament.
Artists interested in making a submission should go to www.flyingarts.org.au and follow the links to the Speaker’s Art Prize. Expressions of interest close 31 January 2014.
