I am pleased to advise the community that the full length of Maleny-Kenilworth Road is now open to two lanes for the first time since flooding severely damaged the road in January 2011. The section of road between Lees and Scrubby Creek roads at Conondale has been opened to two lanes just in time for the Christmas break.
The road sustained significant damage at a number of locations during the January 2011 floods, with work near Bakers Road at Witta completed in October, while the Conondale stretch required more extensive repairs. Further works will be required in the New Year but these works will use traffic control rather than long-term lane closures to minimise the impact on motorists. I can also advise that removal of temporary drainage and construction of permanent drainage treatments associated with the road works is required to stop potential run-off impacting the Mary River.
The new Grigor Bridge, also under construction on Maleny-Kenilworth Road, is also on track to open to traffic early next year.
I’d like to remind motorists that changed traffic conditions remain in place through the worksite during the Christmas break, with crews back to work in the second week of January. I wish to thank the community for their patience and cooperation while these works were underway.
