National Schools Tree Day attracts in excess of 2500 students of all ages from across Australia and this year, Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, will be joining Peachester State School for their annual tree plant.
“National Tree Day, officially on Sunday 28 July, is held each year to provide all Australians the opportunity to do their bit for the environment and ensure we continue to foster a longstanding commitment to protecting and preserving our environment,” Mr Powell said.
Schools throughout Australia are encouraged to support this initiative by hosting their own school tree planting event on Friday 26 July.
“It gives me great pleasure to join with one of my local schools in this annual tree planting exercise. I know the students at Peachester State School are mad keen on protecting their environment and promoting sustainable living practices so it’s a thrill to be involved with them on this special day.
“Over one million native trees, shrubs and grasses were planted at events across Australia in 2012 so it would be great to see if we can better that figure in 2013,” Mr Powell commented.
Mr Powell will be attending the Peachester State School Tree Day event from 11.30am to 12.30pm on Friday 26 July.
