Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP has today pledged his ongoing commitment to continue to campaign for funds to fix the road surface between the Gamgee Road intersections with the D’Aguilar Highway.
This section of the D’Aguilar Highway has increasingly concerned residents and Mr Powell is well aware of the frustration felt by regular users of this road.
“I extend my thanks to the many locals who have contacted my office in recent months to express their disappointment in what seems to them to be a lack of attention given to this section of road.
“I hear your frustration and am happy to say, hand on heart, that behind the scenes I have been working with the Minister on any improvements that can be made to this stretch of road.
“Recently the Minister for Transport and Main Roads had his Department undertake a review into this part of the D’Aguilar Highway and their findings were that a complete restructure of the road is required to address the surface and water pooling problems.
“This job is a big one. The road needs more than just a band-aid solution and repairs will necessitate a substantial amount of funds.
“We don’t want to throw good money after bad with a temporary solution. So I will be campaigning for the $16 million in funds required to fix the problem.
“The Minister knows how badly our community needs this to be addressed and has given me all assurances that he understands the priority and the importance of seeing this project delivered.
“The community has my own assurance that I will do what I can to get this road fixed as soon as funding can be allocated,” Mr Powell concluded.
