Repair work to fix landslips that occurred during the 2010/2011 floods along Maleny-Kenilworth and Maleny-Stanley River Roads will finally be getting underway which is great news for the Hinterland community.
Locals know I lobbied the previous Government on behalf of our community in the wake of the damaging floods and was told the money pot had run dry.
The reconstruction works on these roads will be part of a package of projects involving a number of roads in the North Coast Region and will be delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) funding. The time frame for works should see the package go to tender in November 2012 with the award of the contract expected in the first quarter of 2013. Specific timetabling for works on individual roads will be determined once the contract is awarded.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have also advised new designs for for Grigor Bridge along Maleny-Kenilworth Road in Conondale.
Residents will be overjoyed to hear that TMR have listened to their concerns and the new bridge design allows for a two lane bridge that will be built higher than the existing structure to a 20 year flood immunity. This project will kick off during the first quarter of 2013 with construction to be timed around the breeding period of iconic species of animal habitat in the Mary River.
