Powell Media Release – Labor’s ‘Boarders to Beaches’ a Canadian copy (1 March 2012)

The tired, 20 year old Labor Government hasn’t properly managed the National Parks Queensland already has and are so out of ideas their latest policy slogan is a Canadian copy, the State Opposition said today.

LNP Shadow Environment Minister Andrew Powell said after 20 years in power, the best Anna Bligh could do for the environment was knock off the slogan of a Canadian walking trail program ‘Border to Beaches’ from 2009.*

“It’s laughable Anna Bligh claims Queensland’s National Parks are a cornerstone of Labor achievements in Queensland over the past twenty years,” he said.

“A 2011 Auditor General’s report found that only 17% of Queensland’s National Parks have management plans in place.

“Labor locks up land and throws away the key, but then allows National Parks to be overrun by pests and weeds which impacts on neighbouring farms and local communities.

“Labor has failed to properly protect and manage our National Parks because their focus is on Green preferences not green outcomes.

“In stark contrast, the LNP is committed to ensuring our National Parks and State Forests are properly managed and available to be enjoyed by all Queenslanders, as reflected in our National Parks policy.

“Labor can’t manage the National Parks we already have.

“After 20 years and running out of ideas, Labor are now doing policy by Google search.

“It’s all a broken record and Queensland Labor is on the label.

“It’s time for a change. It’s time to get Queensland back on track.”
