Powell Media Release – More delays equal ongoing closure for popular hinterland road (17 August 2011)

Glass House MP, Andrew Powell has expressed frustration that Department of Transport and Main Roads crews have abandoned work on the Palmwoods-Montville Road to focus on other projects.

“I’d like to think I’ve been very patient with TMR on this project – but enough is enough.  This road has been closed since March 2010 and the contractors are still only up to the design stage.

“How can it take this long to get a design sorted out?  I understand that many of the road repair crews have been working flat out throughout Queensland, but to take this long to sort out a design for repairs is getting beyond a joke,” Mr Powell stated.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads have advised the design work for Palmwoods-Montville Road should be completed by the end of September.

“The local community, residents and tourists have been patient long enough.

“At this stage we’ll be lucky to see any works start before the wet season kicks in again – and who knows what that will bring,” Mr Powell concluded.
