Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, has welcomed the news that funding has been allocated for the future upgrade of the Steve Irwin Way between Bowen Road and Amy Drive in Glasshouse Mountains.
“This is something I have lobbied for since I announced my campaign for the seat of Glass House so to say I am thrilled is really putting it mildly.
“As the local member since 2009, I have seen this community grow and prosper steadily in that time and have no doubt this upgrade will have an enormous positive impact on the lives of local residents.
“The community has been concerned at the increase in small, yet significant accidents and also traffic congestion in this area over the past three years so this announcement is a step in the right direction, ” Mr Powell stated.
Funding for this project has been allocated under the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program 2011-12 to 2014-15.
Local Councilor, Anna Grosskreutz has also expressed her excitement at this news. Cr Grosskreutz has also long campaigned for greater funding for this region.
“This is a great announcement for the Glasshouse Country Region and in particular residents of the Glasshouse Mountains township.
“The Sunshine Coast Regional Council has invested heavily in Tourism Infrastructure and Placemaking for the township and it is important motorists soon have a safe entry/exit.
“This intersection is the last on Steve Irwin Way to receive an upgrade and the State Member for Glass House Andrew Powell and I have worked alongside Government to bring the focus back to the intersection.
“We recognise this significant contribution by the State and will continue to work together to bring the projects completion before 2015,” Cr Anna commented.
“This really is great news – the only way it could be better was if we could get it delivered sooner,” Mr Powell concluded.
