Powell Media Release – Powell recognises volunteers at annual award ceremony (5 April 2011)

Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, is pleased to announce nominations have opened for the second annual Glass House Volunteer Award ceremony.

The ceremony will be held to coincide with National Volunteer Week, this year being celebrated from 9 to 15 May with a theme of ‘Inspiring the Volunteer in You’.

“The purpose of National Volunteer Week is to say ‘thanks’ to the many tireless volunteers that we have within our community.

“The work performed by volunteers can sometimes be taken for granted or overlooked which is why this week of celebration and appreciation of their hard work is so important, Mr Powell said.

Mr Powell structures the Glass House Volunteer Awards so rather than have one overall winner the opportunity is given to acknowledge the efforts of many volunteers throughout our community.

“This year I am pleased to say we have written to over 200 community groups and associations.  Nominations close on Friday 29 April and I encourage anyone wishing to make a nomination to contact my office.

“We’ll also be putting the kettle on after the award ceremony so that the volunteers can have the chance to enjoy a cuppa and chat to some of their fellow dedicated volunteers.

“Judging by the amount of community groups we have invited to submit a nomination, I am confident that we will have in excess of 150 people attending this event,” Mr Powell concluded.
