Parliamentary News – March 2011

Last week in Parliament I had the opportunity to speak about the new Parliamentary Committee system.  Given Queensland does not have an Upper House our present committee structure is under resourced and does not have sufficient influence over the operations of the government.  The review process has identified many commendable recommendations to improve transparency and accountability but the proof will be in the implementation.  I also spoke on the lack of funding for post school services for the many families of children with disabilities.  This is a really big issue in our community and I would encourage you to visit the Speech section on my website to see the full transcript of this and all of my speeches in Parliament.
