Great to be back in the parliamentary swing of things after a short winter break – it is certainly going to be a big few weeks for everybody with the Federal election looming. While in the House this week I had the opportunity to speak on a topic very close to my heart as a father. Michael and Kelly Hornby of Palmwoods, who lost their twin daughters and their mother last year in a horrific road accident, have sought my assistance in promoting their “Grace and Jessica Road Smart Day”. In my speech to the House I stressed how important it is that the Government, in conjunction with local schools, get behind Road Smart Day in the weeks leading up to 12 September and remind all drivers to take care on our roads.
I also spoke about my disappointment that the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Duplication has been further delayed – which will continue to frustrate planning in each of our railway towns. I also expressed my appreciation for the decision to increase protection of land within the Glass House Mountains National Park. I have asked the Minister for a map of the additional park land to be protected and will publish it on my website when I have a copy.
NOTE (September) – I have recently received a copy of the map from the Minister. It is in a PDF format and is too big to post on the website – if you would like a copy please contact the office.
