As a State Member of Parliament I am often invited to special events and openings throughout the electorate. Last Monday I attended one such function that really touched my heart following my recent trip to Kokoda – the Rededication Service at ANZAC Avenue Beerburrum, organised by the Glass House Mountains RSL Sub Branch. The memorial service and the tree planting were a moving tribute to the sacrifices made by our WW1 soldiers. The trees that line the avenue stand as a living testimony to their courage and service. We will forever remember them.
It is great to see that as a community we are really encouraging our young people to be environmentally aware and considerate. I attended the Chevallum State School Kitchen Garden program launch recently and also participated in the Barung Landcare and Montville State School Tree Planting ceremony that coincided with National Tree Day on Friday 30 July. The kids really seemed to understand the importance of preserving our environment for the future and really embraced the concept of National Tree Day. Well done to Barung Landcare for taking the time to show and teach these kids how important it is to look after out environment.
