Small Business

As we say farewell to Small Business Week for another year, I am so proud of how the Glass House community got behind this state wide event.

It all started with my Small Business Awards on Monday night (16 May) which recognised around 50 small business operators and their staff for their contribution to the community.

For the rest of the week I am happy to say I travelled to many towns in Glass House and caught up with quite a few winners and nominees from the night.  This included dropping in to see Vicki from Beerwah Hair and Beauty and getting a haircut while I was out and about.

I also did a spot of ‘Check-out-chicking’ at the Glasshouse Mountains IGA which is an experience I will never forget.  Luckily Jodie Pember who won Gold in the employee category was on hand to show me the ropes – and make sure I didn’t over charge anyone!

Make sure you check out all of the details on my Homepage for the full list of winners and shortlisted nominees at this very special event.

Today Tim Nicholls MP and I stood alongside the Master Electricians Australia and electrical contractors to launch “Save Our Sparkies”.

Labor is planning to let their merged energy monolith to compete against mum and dad small business across the state.

What next? State owned butchers? If you want to stand alongside the electrical contractors please sign the petition –

Have you got what it takes to be a “Business of the Year” or an “Employee of the Year”?
As part of this year’s Queensland Small Business Week in May I’m working with Maleny Commerce (thanks Spencer), Glasshouse Country Chamber of Commerce (thanks Andrew), Montville Chamber of Commerce (thanks Allan) and Commerce Caboolture (sorry you couldn’t make it this morning Adam) to hold a huge Gala Night that celebrates small business in the Glass House region. Anyone who follows my website regularly or Facebook would know how I am a huge supporter of small business.  My trips around the 20 small communities in the Glass House electorate always include a visit to our business districts so I can say hi and show my ongoing support.  Remember, supporting our small business operators means a stronger local economy and more local jobs!

It is always great to attend networking nights hosted by the Glasshouse Chamber of Commerce so I can connect with business owners and understand the issues impacting them.

Thanks to new President Andrew Prescott for posing in this pic with me.
