Community can now ‘look out’ at Balmoral Lookout

Being able to ‘look out’ at a designated tourist lookout seems a pretty basic requirement.  Yet Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, has been fielding complaints from locals for more than twelve months – frustrated that Balmoral Lookout no longer “looked out”.

“The Balmoral Lookout, perfectly positioned on Maleny-Montville Road, used to offer its visitors some of the most breathtaking 180 degree views of the Sunshine Coast.  Unfortunately, due to neglect tourists have not been able to enjoy these breathtaking views at all.

“In conjunction with members of the local community, I have lobbied the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to have the overgrown vegetation and tree limbs attended to in order to restore this area to one of the best tourist stops in the region,” Mr Powell said.

Contractors have been working on the area recently and significant improvements have been made to clean up and revitalise the area.  The project has included removing the dense woody weeds and replacing it with low lying native vegetation that will continue to stabilise the hill.

“The space and facilities at this lookout make it one of the best on the Coast and I am pleased to see this work has finally been given the priority it deserves.

“There is still more to be done and we need to ensure ongoing maintenance so I will continue the conversation with TMR, Council and landholders to ensure the recent good work doesn’t go to waste.

“I genuinely thank the TMR crews for the work they have done so far and to the community for being patient through disruptions to their travel time through this area.”

During the last few months I have had countless people in Glass House contact me with projects they would like to see delivered in our community. There is no shortage of projects we can work on together and my challenge as the local Member will be to ensure I work as hard as I can to accommodate the needs of people in all 20 of the individual townships that make up the Glass House electorate.

The Glass House ‘Fighting For’ wishlist will continue to be a work in progress and anything you identify in your community can be added to the list. All suggestions are welcome at any time so feel free to email my office as you identify something–
