Mobile Offices

After concluding last year attending lots of school graduation celebrations, the beginning of the school year now brings many leadership ceremonies which I have great pleasure in attending.  It’s exciting to meet our new leaders of the future and I wish all the kids well for a great year.

During this past week my movements included:

  • constituent appointments
  • on site meetings regarding road concerns
  • mobile offices in Glasshouse and Conondale
  • briefing by Maleny Bowls Club on their 80th year celebrations
  • meetings with Transport and Main Roads stakeholders and groups
  • attending Maleny State School leadership ceremony
  • launching a petition for improvements at the Landsborough-Maleny Road and Maleny-Montville Road intersection
  • meeting with Local Government representatives
  • attending the Maleny RSL Annual Reunion Luncheon
  • being special guest at an LNP meeting in Nanango

It was a very full week of mobile offices this week and a variety of issues were raised by constituents from all over the Glass House electorate.  I thoroughly enjoy being out in your different communities and listening to your concerns.  I will be following up on many of your enquiries in the coming weeks.

In between mobile offices I was also briefed by representatives from the Department of Transport and Main Roads on the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway.  A copy of the design layout is available for viewing in my office.

I was out in Maleny on Wednesday to promote the Annual Charity Cricket Match between my Celebrity XI and the Maleny Maulers at Aub Cork Oval in Maleny which will take place on Saturday the 15th of October from 12 pm.  The competition is always fierce and the Maulers will be keen to try and reclaim the trophy after their loss last year. This annual match started many years ago to fundraise for the Pyjama Foundation (therefore explaining the team uniform). It was decided in the third year, after losing a Maleny local identity Dr Peter Oliver to lung cancer, that all fundraising efforts for future matches would be directed to Lung Foundation Australia.  Everyone is welcome so please come along and support this worthy cause and have a few laughs (probably at my expense).

I was happy to announce this week that the D’Aguilar Highway between Caboolture and Kilcoy is set to become even safer and more efficient with another major project about to begin, right on the back of the recent upgrades being completed.  Following the completion of the new eastbound overtaking lane between the Gamgee Road (intersections west of Wamuran) the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Darren Chester, approved another new overtaking lane to be built at Woodford between Chambers and Petersen roads.  This project is fully funded as part of the Australian Government’s $16 million Road Safety Improvement project and was the direct result of lobbying by then Federal Member for Longman Wyatt Roy and myself.  A great result for those who travel on the D’Aguilar Highway.

On Friday night I attended the Fairways International Food Festival at the Woodford Golf Club and then went on to the Leukaemia Foundation ‘Light up the Lakes’ evening which is always a very moving event.  On Saturday I finished off the week by attending the Palmwoods RSL Reunion Lunch and joined the Polished Man Campaign along with my friend Andrew Wallace, Member for Fisher, to help end violence towards children.   We both painted one of our nails to bring awareness to the campaign.

Parliament was in session last week and I had the pleasure of welcoming some students from Maleny school, Ananda Marga River School.  They were a great bunch of kids and really seemed to enjoy their time in Parliament House.

On my return to the electorate I attended the following events –

  • Annual Day for Daniel
  • Held a cupcake stall at the front of the Maleny Newsagent to raise awareness of the excellent work the Morcombe Foundation do for our kids
  • Had a meeting with the Maleny High School Environment Committee
  • Held a BBQ and Mobile office in Conondale
  • Attending a Dad and Daughter Dance at the Palmwoods State School to raise money for the Palmwoods Chappy
  • Attended the memorial celebration for the Woombye Light Horse group

I will have my mobile office set up on the Corner of Dances and Pumicestone Roads this Friday 9 October from 3pm to 4.30pm.

If you live close by and have an issue to chat about or just want to pop by and say Hi, make sure you come along.

If this time doesn’t suit you, please just contact the office and we can make alternative arrangements.
